Description

Careless Cottage is a house and shop, with a timber-frame gable end dating to the early 16th century. It was refronted in the early to mid-19th century and now linked with an early 19th century house. The north side has a symmetrical, plastered facade. The ground floor contains a double shop with six-pane windows, framed by fluted pilasters and a moulded cornice. Above, a six-over-six sash window is visible. Internal features include exposed timber framing and a crown post roof with four posts. A later 16th century rear extension exists. The southern section of the building is constructed from yellow stock brick with a slate roof and features triple-hung sash windows on the north side, and an eight-over-eight sash window on the south, to both the ground and first floors.
