Description
No. 43 Baldock Street is a house that has been converted into a ground floor shop with offices above. It dates back to the 16th century but has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber-framed structure with colourwashed stucco facing and an old tiled roof. It stands two storeys tall, with the first floor showcasing two flush set sash windows that have divided glazing and exposed boxes. The ground floor has a shopfront from the 19th century, which includes a cornice and fascia supported by carved, moulded consoles, and features arcaded windows. There is also a 19th-century extension at the rear.
Inside, the ground floor has been gutted, and access to the first floor is now through No. 41. On the first floor, a braced tie-beam truss is visible, supported by long jowled posts. The main roof consists of three bays, with side purlins that have curved windbracing and paired smoke-blackened rafters, which are subdivided by wattle and daub partitions.
