Description

Bullards is a house located on Hunsdon Road in Widford village, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with a southeast wing added in the 18th century. The house was partly refronted in the early 19th century and extended to the east in the later 19th century. Early 20th-century features include curvilinear gables on the east side.

The building is irregularly shaped and has two storeys, set back from the street. The northern part is timber-framed and plastered, topped with old red tile roofs and two red brick chimneys. The longer southern part is constructed of red brick, possibly an 18th-century casing of an older structure. It features three large sash windows on each floor, with the center window having a segmental headed top sash and louvred shutters. There are flat gauged arches over the lower windows, and a panelled door is centrally located, sheltered by a tiled lean-to porch.

Attached to the southeast is a two-storey red brick block from the 19th century, which includes a four-centred gateway with pilasters and a moulded entablature. The east front showcases early 20th-century plaster curvilinear gables with applied timberwork, a bay window, and a square turret topped with a vane. This historic house has a complex history and is part of the picturesque group within the village's Conservation Area.
