Description
Number 14 on Water Lane is a building that was refronted around 1840 and originally consisted of late 16th century or early 17th century timber-framed dwellings. It features yellow stock brick with stone dressings and an old red tile roof. The building has two storeys with a total of six windows, which were originally part of three two-window houses. The end and center windows are flanked by plain brick pilasters. There are two ground floor arch-headed doorways and one later 19th century wooden door with an architrave surround and a bracketed cornice. The windows are sash style. Inside, much of the exposed timber frame can be seen, particularly at the west end, which also features scratch-moulded oak panelling in the ground and first floor rooms. At the rear of the west end, there is a mid-19th century extension made of yellow stock brick, which includes a large ground and first floor sash oriel bay.
