Description
Handscombs Ltd Ironmongers is an early 17th-century building with a restored pargetted front and an old red tile roof. It stands two storeys high. The ground floor features an impressive early 19th-century double projecting shop front with 40 panes on each side and a double central door adorned with lozenge "chinoiserie" panes. On the first floor, there are three sash windows and one modern oriel window, with four hipped roofs facing the street. The east side of the ground floor has a modern shop front.
Inside, there are exposed ceiling timber beams behind the old shop front, and a plaster ceiling with motifs from the Bishop of London behind the modern shop front. The first floor showcases a significant amount of exposed wall and ceiling timbers, along with some repositioned contemporary oak panelling.
Adjacent to No 11 is an early to mid 19th-century painted brick building, formerly No 9, which is three storeys high and features a one-window elevation with a hipped slate roof. It has double-hung sash windows on the first floor and a single sash window on the second floor.
