Description
The North Barn at Great Barwick Farm, located 50 meters to the northwest of the house, is a barn dating from the mid-16th century. It features a timber frame set on a low brick sill, with dark weatherboarding beneath a steeply pitched roof that was originally thatched but is now covered with corrugated iron. The barn has a short, five-bay structure facing south, with a small door in the middle bay on the north side and formerly double doors on the south side, which have now been moved to the east end. The barn is supported by jowled posts with long curved braces connecting to the tie-beams, and it has a clasped-purlin roof supported by queen-post trusses. The wall studs extend to the eaves without a rail at mid-height.
