Description
No. 18 West Street is an 18th-century house that has been altered in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. It features a timber-framed structure that is plastered, with the ground floor underbuilt in brown stock brick laid in Flemish Bond, and a Welsh slated roof.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a four-bay front. The first floor has four windows, including one flush-set-pane sash with an architrave surround, located in the second bay from the right above the door, while the other windows have been replaced with small-paned wood casements. The second floor has three flush-set 12-pane sashes. The ground floor includes a carriageway on the left, which is now closed off by 20th-century four-leaf boarded garage doors with glazed upper sections. There are two sash windows on this level, one to the left of the door with 16 panes and one to the right with plain glazing. The entrance features a six-panel door set in a wood-lined reveal, topped with a cornice hood supported by cut profiled double brackets. The rear of the building has undergone significant changes but still includes a door with a moulded architrave surround and a hood on cut profiled brackets.
The interior has been much altered, and the house contributes to a significant street frontage range.
