Description
These are two conjoined barns located about 50 meters west of number 60 (Watton Place) in Watton-at-Stone, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. They have timber frames set on stock brick bases and are weatherboarded with a tiled roof. The barns consist of nine bays. There is a closed gabled midstrey in the third bay from the left end, which features a slate-roofed lean-to on the left. A gabled midstrey that was originally in the third bay from the right end has been removed to the rear.
Inside, the earlier end away from the road has trusses with arched braces to the tie beams, angled queen struts to the principals, and butt purlins. The later end includes angled queen struts clasping the lower purlins and collars clasping the upper purlins, along with tension braces in the walling. The barns are currently used for industrial storage.
