Description
No. 69 High Street is a house that was originally three dwellings and later a shop. It dates from the mid to late 17th century and was extended in the 18th century. The building was refronted and further extended in the 19th century. It features some timber framing with pargetted rendering and cement roughcast. The front has been refronted, cased, and extended in stock brick, with part of it whitewashed. The roof is tiled but has been extended with slate.
The house has three bays, with an additional later bay to the right. On the ground floor, the entrance is located to the right of the center. To the left, there is a 20th-century tripartite sash window, and to the right, a 20th-century bow window. The first floor has three recessed sashes with 16 panes each. The slate refronting has a shallow pitch, while the tiled section behind has a steeper pitch. The later bay set back to the right features a ground floor 20th-century bow window and a first-floor flush frame three-light casement, along with pargetting and coved eaves. It has a separate steeply pitched roof.
The right end of the building has an exposed red brick internal stack, with cement render behind leading to a red brick lean-to outshut that has a catslide roof and a two-light dormer at the rear. The left end is entirely stock brick, showing exposed plates and purlins, with 20th-century casements. There is a parallel 19th-century block at the rear, which has a right gable end stack and a hip to the left with another stack. Inside, some of the framing is exposed.
