Description
Whiprow Cottages comprise a range of cottages north of the Lordship, dating from the 16th century and later. The structure is timber-framed with a central, half-timbered and red brick gable end. The walls are panelled with modern plaster, with a brick base, and topped with a steep, old tiled roof. The cottages are two storeys high with six windows. A central feature was likely a cross wing of the original house on the south side. This section's half-timbered upper floor features diagonal braces and an original central window frame. Brickwork from the 18th century and ornamental bargeboards from the 19th century are incorporated into the design. A 19th or 20th-century projecting porch, built to imitate brick and timber, is finished with a fishscale tile roof. All windows are 3-light, leaded casements with horizontal bars, and some retain 17th-century moulded frames. A single window and door at the north end represent a modern extension. The south gable end exhibits an exposed 17th-century brick stack.
