Description
Hardings Farm House and adjacent outhouses are located at the end of a track, 440 metres from the road. The house dates from the 17th century or earlier and was rewindowed in the 19th century. It is a timber-framed building that is plastered, standing two storeys high with an attic. The farmhouse features a red brick sill wall in English bond and a steep gabled roof with a bellcast at the eaves, which is now covered with slate.
The layout follows a three-unit baffle-entry plan, with a large central chimney positioned one third from the eastern end and a large external stack at the western end. The front has three windows, with vertically proportioned windows on the first floor and horizontally proportioned windows on the ground floor. There are wide pilaster strips on either side of the door, topped with a similar crosspiece that rises to a point. The entrance features a 19th-century five-panel door with bolection mouldings on the upper three panels and flush beaded panels below. Modern metal windows have been installed.
At the rear, there is a brick and slate lean-to that has been whitewashed, with one window on each floor in the eastern gable and a small window in the apex. To the west, the house is linked to a range of 18th to 19th-century outbuildings that are weatherboarded and timber-framed, topped with steep corrugated iron roofs.
