Description
The south barn and shelter shed at Cutting Hill Farm, located 10 meters south of the house, is a barn with an attached shelter shed. The barn dates back to the 16th century and was altered in the 18th century, while the shelter shed was added in the 19th century. It is timber framed, covered in dark weatherboarding, and features slated roofs, with the barn having a steeper pitch. Originally, the barn had five bays facing west and included a gabled central porch; however, the northern end bay has been removed, and an additional bay was added to the south. The barn has jowled posts in the low side-walls and a side-purlin roof supported by collar and inclined-queen-post trusses. The wallplate features an edge-halved bladed scarf joint. The attached five-bay shelter shed is located at the southwest corner of the barn and faces north, with an open front supported by posts and a queen-strut, clasped purlin roof.
