Description
This is a house, likely dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. The construction is timber frame with roughcast plaster and red brick infill to the north side, and red brick facing to the front ranges. It has steep old red tile roofs, with a gambrel roof to the north half of the front range, and pantiles on a small outhouse. The house is arranged in an "L" shape, facing east.
The southern part of the front has a two-storey wing built in the 18th century with plum-red brick, a moulded base, and two windows above a single window. It features recessed sash windows with eight-pane upper sashes, set under segmental arches. The northern part is a single-storey structure with an attic, with a gambrel roof and three tall gabled dormers in the eaves, each with cusped bargeboards and sash windows with eight-pane upper sashes.
The front of the house, facing east, has an early 19th-century red brick facade symmetrical in design, with a recessed sash window with six-pane upper sashes set within a panel with a slightly cambered arch on either side of a round-headed doorway. The doorway has a heavy, moulded, rectangular frame and a fanlight. It retains an early 18th-century painted eight-panel oak door, noted in a historical record from 1911.
A lower, one-and-a-half-storey rear wing facing north has a gabled dormer above a Tudor-arched doorway. To the west is a heavy timber three-centred doorway, possibly dating from the 16th century or earlier, with a hollow chamfer and roll mouldings, and a chip-carved roundel within each spandrel.
