Description
Little Munden JMI School, located 50 meters south of the church, is a village school built in 1822 for Reverend J. P. Reynolds, who served as rector from 1819 to 1831. The trust deed for the school is dated January 25, 1825. It underwent a small extension for infants in 1869 and was enlarged in 1900, 1970, and 1973. The building features uncoursed knapped flint with a white brick plinth, window surrounds, quoins, and gable copings, topped with steep slate roofs.
The east front facing the road is entirely brick with stucco labels above three windows. It is a single-storey T-shaped building with a northern crosswing and a projecting gabled porch leading into a narthex. The small 1869 extension to the south of the porch is constructed in similar flint and bricks and includes a cast iron lattice casement. The south gable of the schoolroom has small arched openings and a gabled bellcote that houses a bell. The porch roof is covered in fish-scale slates.
A Tudor-arched chamfered doorway has been converted into a window. The windows are recessed 10/10 small paned top-hung designs with segmental arches and labels. The gable kneelers are moulded, and there is a louvred gable opening on the crosswing. The north and west faces of the crosswing, which face the churchyard, are flint faced, and there is a large arched window on the west end that has been blocked. This building is an early example of a parish school and is included for its group value.
