Description

Fanshaws Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th or early 17th century. It features a timber frame set on a projecting plastered sill, with roughcast walls and basketwork pargetting. The roof is steep and covered with old red tiles, while the west gable of the lower part is finished in dark weatherboard. The building is two storeys high and two windows wide, with a two-cells plan, and is set back slightly from the road, facing south. The west part of the house is one and a half storeys and also two windows wide. This section has flush-box sash windows with small panes, although the main house has had these replaced with metal three-light casements. The main entrance features a central door that is half-glazed and has four panels. A very large red brick chimney is located near the west end of the ridge, and there is an external chimney on the east gable.

Inside, the farmhouse has cased beams in the ceilings of the ground floor rooms, along with a cased wall post. There is an 18th-century cupboard, a modern fireplace, and panelling in the east room on one side. An early 19th-century hob grate is also present, and the doors are fitted with old strap hinges. An extension of the house includes a fireplace set on a splay. The quality of the timberwork is fairly good, although much of it is covered.
