Description
Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century and early 19th century. It features a timber frame with some clay lump and brick infill, a brick facade, and a black pantiled roof. The building has a single pile plan that has been altered over time, resulting in a slightly asymmetrical facade to accommodate the interior layout.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a central fielded door set in a pilastered doorcase topped by a broken pediment. There are renewed casement windows on either side of the door, each with gauged skewback arches. The first floor has three sash windows, also under skewback arches, and the eaves cornice is dentiled. The gabled roof features internal end stacks, and the gable walls are weatherboarded on a brick plinth. At the rear, there is a random brick and flint outshut from the mid-19th century, with a timber door and 20th-century casements.
The first floor is timbered with rendered brick and has a catslide roof. Inside, the building retains a complete timber frame. The west room has an open fireplace and all ceiling beams, while the east room features a boxed spine beam. Dado decoration and a fireplace in the east room date from the refronting of the house. The roof was renewed in the mid-19th century.
