Description

House. Built in 1699 and renovated in 1901 for the Pearson family estate, as indicated by the inscription '1699/ERP/1901' on a rainwater head. The house is constructed of red brick with black headers in a Flemish bond pattern, featuring an old red tile roof with two parallel ridges. A lead roofed, square timber cupola sits centrally on the roof. The house is two storeys high, with attics and a cellar, arranged in a double-pile plan, with end chimneys and a central entrance. It is set within its own grounds, facing west, with lower extensions at the rear and to the southeast.

The symmetrical west front features five windows on the first floor, with corresponding windows on the ground floor, and a central entrance. Details include box eaves, a plat-band, a plastered plinth, heavy oak frames, metal casements, and leaded two-light windows with segmental arches on the ground floor. The front door is a six-panel fielded oak door within a gabled timber porch, accessed by four steps. The gables have built-up brick copings, and there are two large projecting south gable chimneys with many tiled offsets and decorative terracotta pots; a smaller external gable chimney is present at the north. Attics are lit by gable chimneys.

The cupola has an ogee cup and ball finial, providing roof lighting to the stair. The interior front ground floor room exhibits bolection moulded panelling, a cornice, a dado, and a late 18th century cast iron hob grate. Another front room has exposed beams and a fire lintel. Cased beams can be found on the first floor, along with a similar hob grate.
