Description
The gate, piers, and steps at the west gate to the walled garden at Beechwood Park School date from the early 18th century. They feature wrought iron and red brick piers with stone copings, along with moulded stone steps. The design includes a single gate with iron standards and an overthrow, positioned between three-meter tall square red brick piers that are set in an older garden wall of the same height. Two stone steps lead down into the garden on the east side. The gate has dog-bars in the bottom panel, a scrolled lock rail, and twisted points above. The rectangular standards, spaced one bar from the piers, have elaborate scrolled infill, and the tops align with the head of the gate. Scrolled finials are present above each standard, with a taller finial over the gate featuring a Chinese fret in the center.
