Description
Six Tunnels Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the early 17th century or possibly earlier. The southern part of the building is brick cased from the 18th century, while the northern wing was brick cased in the 19th century. The southern part of the walls was rebuilt after bomb damage in the 20th century. The farmhouse is constructed of red brick and has a tile roof, with a wooden eaves cornice on the southern part that has been renewed.
This irregular two-storey house faces west and features a southern part that includes a hall, which likely originally extended further to the west. There is an eastern crosswing that projects to the south, containing a cellar below and an external chimney on the eastern wall. This section has hipped roofs, wide casement windows, and exposed old ceiling beams. Extending to the north is a double-pile range that appears to be from the 19th century but has much older origins. At the junction of the two parts, there is a lobby entrance next to a very large and tall chimney made of narrow red bricks, which terminates in six tall octagonal shafts with corbelled caps. The name of the farm, "Six Tunnels," is derived from a verbal corruption of "funnels."
