Description
London Lodge to Tring Park is a gatelodge that has been converted into a house. It was built in the late 19th century for the Rothschild family, likely designed by William Huckvale. The building features half-timbering with scalloped tile hanging, a chamfered red brick sill, and steep red tiled roofs topped with tall red brick chimneys. This large gatelodge, which is one and a half storeys high, is designed in the Jacobean style and faces north, situated beside the former drive.
The rectangular plan includes a V-shaped projection at the front with two jettied, two-storeyed gabled wings and a gabled open timber porch in between. The lodge is highly ornate, showcasing carved rustic Ionic pilasters on each upright of the first floor and as uprights of the porch. It has mullioned four-light leaded windows and bargeboards with pendants. A small dormer is located on the roofslope above the porch, and the front door is a two-panelled design. The infill panels are roughcast.
