Description
No. 2, formerly known as Nos. 1 and 3, is a building that consists of four houses now combined into one. The central part dates from the 17th century, with a mid-19th century extension and various alterations and subdivisions. The building features a timber-framed center that is encased in brickwork on the ground floor, while the first floor showcases 19th-century half-timbering with a jettied design. The structure is primarily constructed of buff brick, accented by a red brick floor band and relieving arches above the ovolo brick mullioned windows. The roofs are steep and covered with old red tiles. The older section, which is the second of the four cottages, is a two-bay, two-storey jettied structure facing east. It has jowled posts and an exposed curved brace along with a cambered tie beam in the northern end frame. There is a cross passage in the second bay and a chamfered axial floor beam with bar stops. Two-storey extensions to the north and south create a picturesque asymmetrical southern front, featuring two gabled lucarnes with transoms above the upper windows.
