Description
Little Manor is a house dating from the mid-to-late 17th century, extensively restored in 1879 to a design by Lady Marion Alford and her son, Earl Brownlow. The design incorporated the inscription “AD 1513” within the pargeting on the left-hand side, and "REST 1879" on the right. The house is timber-framed, set upon a chamfered red brick plinth, with exposed close studding and red brick infill on the ground floor. The upper part of the facade features all-over stamped panelled pargeting, and is jettied on three sides. It has a steep red tiled roof and includes a 2-story cellar and attics; the house facing south is in an eclectic half-timbered style.
The symmetrical front elevation has three windows and a central door. The windows are 3-light flush casements with lattice leaded glazing, while the window above the plank front door is 2-light. There are two 2-light gabled dormers in the roof slope. A large external chimney is set into the west gable, and there is a rear wall chimney on the eastern part of the building.
The interior features thin axial floor beams, high ceilings, and tenoned purlins to the roof structure. The cellar and rear sections of the house date from the 19th century. Deeds from 1698 refer to the property, and in 1726 it was known as Halfe-Moon Cottage.
