Description
Church House is a house dating from around 1700, with little alteration since its construction. It features red brick with blue headers in a chequered pattern, a painted front, and an exposed timber frame with brick nogging in the gable triangles. The house has a steep old red tile roof and is a large, two-storey structure with attics and a cellar, facing north. There is a 19th-century lean-to tiled extension against the east end, which is set back.
Originally, the house had a symmetrical front with five windows and a central door, but now the first window from the west on each floor is blocked, as is the second window from the east on the ground floor. It has a plinth and a brick floor-band. The cross windows are slightly recessed and feature lattice leaded glazing. There is a rustic gabled porch, and a blocked first-floor cross window on the east end has a soldier-arch made of alternating red and blue headers.
Two gabled dormers are set high on the roof slope, each with two-light lattice leaded casements. Inside, there are two main rooms on each floor, with a staircase located off the entrance lobby. The larger room on the east side served as a hall and kitchen and has a rear-wall chimney, while the west room, known as the parlour, features a cross-beam and a projecting chimney on the west gable.
