Description
Pipers Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with 19th century brick additions at the northeast. The structure features a timber frame that is cased in rendered brickwork, with the frame exposed on the gables. It has steep red tile roofs and is 1½ storeys high, consisting of three structural bays that face south. The house includes three large gabled dormers that rise through the eaves, along with lower brick ranges at the eastern end and rear. There are four windows in total, which are three-light flush casements with lattice leaded glazing. The cottage has large canted bays at both the eastern and western ends.
Internally, posts and rails are partially exposed on the ground floor, along with cross-beams and axial beams. The wall plate is approximately 4 feet above the floor level, supported by three trusses with heavy curved braces to the tie-beams, which have been cut through. Weathered timbers are visible on the former eastern end of the house. Additionally, there is a mid-height rail in the rear (northern) wall, situated about 6 feet from the ground and 4 feet below the wall plate.
