Description

No. 10 is a house dating from the 18th century, although it incorporates elements of an earlier house constructed in the 16th or 17th century. "17TD33" is cut into the ground floor front brickwork near the window. The house is built of plum brick with red brick detailing the quoins and window jambs, and has a steep roof covered in old red tiles. A timber-framed wall, originally with wattle and daub infill, remains from the earlier structure. It is a small, two-storey and attic house set back from the road, facing south. A rear catslide outshut is integral to the building, and the entrance is located on the east side, beneath a gabled open timber porch. The windows are small-pane Yorkshire sliding casements with segmental arches. There is one window on each floor of the south front, plus a ground floor window, a stair window, and a small two-light attic window on the east side. Inside, the two-bay house has a side-purlin roof with roughly squared crossbeams and exposed joists. The surviving exposed timber frame on the west side features jowled posts and clasped-purlins.
