Description
Nos. 16 and 17 Akeman Street are two houses that were originally three, built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of red brick, featuring gauged red brick arches, and have a slate roof that is hipped at the northern end. The block of houses faces west, with the front of the northern house positioned at a slight angle due to the bend in the road. The buildings are two storeys tall and have a cellar. Each house has three windows on both floors and three doors. The northern house has a recessed sash window on the first floor with eight panes over eight, topped with a flat gauged arch, along with a plank door and a six-over-six sash window, both of which have timber lintels. The other two houses have similar first-floor windows, a triple-sash window below, and a door to the right, all featuring flat gauged arches. The houses have seen little alteration and are included for their group value.
