Description
The South Obelisk in front of Akeman Street Baptist Church is a memorial obelisk, built around 1851 in memory of James Page, who served as the pastor of the church for five years before his death in 1851. This painted stone obelisk is one of two identical memorials that flank the path facing east. It features a short obelisk with a moulded base, which is set on a tall tapering plinth that has a moulded cap and base. The east face of the obelisk includes an inscription. Surrounding the obelisk is a low stone surround, which has stone blocks in the middle of each side and small obelisks at the corners.
