Description

This early 19th-century shop with a house above stands on Akeman Street in Tring. The building is constructed of buff brick with a plaster eaves soffit beneath a hipped slate roof. It has three storeys and a cellar, facing west. A central recessed shop window is flanked by a cellar opening and a round-arched doorway on each side, with two steps leading up to each half-glazed four-panel door. These doors have reeded transoms and semi-circular fanlights above. There are two windows to each floor above. The recessed sash windows have flat gauged arches and stone sills; the first floor windows have eight panes to each sash, while the second-floor windows are squarer with four panes. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the wider group value of the street.
