Description

FLAMSTEAD TROWLEY HILL ROAD TL 0714 (West side) 9/58 No. 12 (Southernwood) 26.1.67 (formerly listed as The Nook, under Chapel Street) GV II

House. Early C18 front block, rear wings probably C17, late C20 front porch, door and window frames. Sandy red brick in Flemish-bond, roughcast probably timber framed rear wings, steep old red tile roofs, hipped on front block. A symmetrical 2-storeys and attics, 3 windows wide house, facing E, with ovolo moulded plinth course, modillion brick eaves band and pronounced bellcast to roof eaves. Central entrance, end chimneys plan. 2 single-storey wings to rear, the Southern one longer. Tall windows to front with stained quoins to surround, gauged flat arches dark stained, and cross windows with lattice leaded glazing. County firemark. Round headed doorway with panelled reveals, transom and impost a continuous reeded band. C20 hardwood panelled door. Porch on octagonal fluted posts. In 1960s the house had recessed sash windows of 6/6 panes and C18 doorcase with panelled reveals, open triangular pediment on consoles, and 6-panel moulded door.
