Description

This is a 16th-century house, now a shop, located on Trowley Hill Road in Flamstead. The eastern crosswing, which fronts the road, was later re-faced in the 19th century with brick and now includes a shop window. The building is timber-framed with red brick infill, and the eastern gable is clad in weatherboard above a painted brick front crosswing. It has steep, old red tile roofs. The main, two-story range faces north and features a large internal chimney. A lower, two-story western crosswing fronts the roadside. This front displays a corbelled and dentil eaves band, a recessed sash window with 3/3 panes on the first floor, a stucco plinth, and a half-glazed door with a moulded flat hood to the left of a small shop window with fascia. The crosswing structurally extends a bay to the south, into number 8, and the house may originally have been part of the former Bell Inn.
