Description
The barn at Grist House Farm, located 25 meters to the south-southeast of the house, is a 17th-century structure that has been converted into commercial premises. It features a timber frame set on a red brick sill in English bond, with dark weatherboarding and steep old red tile roofs. The barn is tall and consists of five bays, facing west. It has a central gabled porch that projects to the west, and there is an opposed doorway leading to a rear courtyard, which now has sliding doors. The barn includes jowled posts, unjowled posts in the mid-bay, a mid-height rail that is jointed in-line, curved braces supporting the tie-beams, and a clasped-purlin roof with one purlin on each slope. Additionally, it has straight wind-braces and inclined straight queen-post trusses.
