Description
Grist House Farm is a farmhouse that has been converted into a private house, dating from around 1700. It features a northwest extension at the angle of the house and a rear wing added around 1800, along with a brick rear wall. The structure has a timber frame set on a brick sill in Flemish bond, with the lower sill on the south side in English bond. The exterior is roughcast on the front and sides, while the rear wall is made of red brick. The building has a steep hipped roof covered with old red tiles, and there is a slate-roofed lean-to on the north end, as well as a rustic timber loggia with two bays on the south end.
This square, two-storey house with a cellar is set back from the road and faces east, featuring two windows on each floor. The windows are flush box sash with two over two panes, with the ground floor windows being deeper. The central entrance has a half-glazed early 19th-century flush beaded panelled door, which is surrounded by a moulded wooden frame and topped with a later gabled rustic porch. Originally, the house was L-shaped with two windows and a central chimney in the south range. It has transomed two-light casement windows and has been extended to a square double-pile plan, with chimneys located on the mid-wall and a central entrance leading to the staircase. Inside, the house features unjowled posts in the frame, chamfered axial beams in the front range, and an original moulded plank door.
