Description

A house and associated outbuildings, now two separate houses, dating to the 17th century. The main house has a timber frame with a black painted brick sill, a roughcast front and north end to the chimney, painted brick infill beyond the chimney, and painted brick casing to the ground floor. The outbuildings are a mix of timber frame and dark weatherboarded construction, with painted brick detailing. The roofs are steeply pitched with old red tiles. The main house is two and a half storeys and faces east, incorporating a rear outshut under a catslide roof extension. The original layout was likely a two-cell plan with end chimneys, and a central entrance. It has two windows on each floor, with flush three-light casements and small panes. The two gables each have windows to the top storey. Two wide-spaced plank doors are positioned in the middle, each protected by a gabled wooden porch linked by a pentice roof. One porch has been infilled with an early 19th-century large cast iron Gothick window, and matching windows are found in a single-storey brick lean-to at the north end. The north external gable chimney is later than the large external south gable chimney, which has corbelled tops to three combined square shafts. The roofs have side purlins. Interior features include jowled posts with straight braces and tie-beams. A small, dark weatherboarded and slated barn is attached to the rear northwest, facing north. A larger outbuilding, originally detached, has a cross-wing with double doors in the gable and a lower wing set back on its south side.
