Description
The buildings at 90 and 92 High Street, Hoddesdon, are probably of around 1500 and originally timber-framed. A floor was inserted between the 16th and 17th centuries. In the early 20th century, the front was rendered with a rough cast finish and given an imitation half-timbered appearance. The roof is covered in slate and is continuous with the adjacent building at number 88.
The building is two storeys high. The ground floor is occupied by a modern shop, with 19th-century fielded-panel double doors on the north side. Most of the windows are modern leaded casements, but one window on the south side is an early to mid-19th century sash window with 10 panes, set within a moulded architrave. The southern two bays feature exposed, chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The upper floors of these bays have heavy tie beams. A crown post is likely to be present in the south-end wall, similar to that found in number 88. Sooted plaster panels are visible in the upper parts of the attic partition walls.
