Description
88 High Street is a building dating from around 1500 or earlier, with alterations made in the late 16th century. It features an exposed timber frame and modern pargetting, along with imitation half-timbering on the upper half of the first floor. The building has a state roof that is continuous with No 90 next door. It stands two storeys tall with an attic, and the upper floor jetties out on large, bull-nosed joists. The lower part of the upper floor displays Wealden framing and includes two modern leaded casement windows. Inside, the ground floor has heavy floor beams and joists, while the upper floor ceiling was added in the later 16th century. The attic features a crown post roof in the north bay, with one curved brace connecting to a central strut and a boomerang-shaped brace on the north wall post.
