Description
Nos 102 and 104 on High Street in Hoddesdon are early 17th century timber-framed buildings that were refronted around 1820. The ground floor has late 19th century shops and the structure consists of three bays. The first floor is roughcast with a modern tiled roof and features two segmental-headed casement dormers. On the first floor, there are triple-hung sash windows with 6/6 panes on the south side. The north side has windows with reeding and paterae end pilasters and architraves. A modern dentil cornice is present, and the north shop door is adorned with fielded pilasters, paired consoles, and a Gothic interlace blind fan. Inside, the building has chamfered and stopped floor beams, and a two-bay rear extension on the north first floor, which includes a Jacobean fireplace with a fluted pilaster overmantel and figured panels. There is also a coach entrance on the south side, and it is likely that the building was formerly an inn.
