Description

Fitzjohns is a building that originated as part of an early 16th-century house, which has been extended and altered in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The structure features a combination of timber framing and plaster, as well as brick and plaster, with a tiled roof. The oldest section is located at the southern end of the building, forming an L-shape, and shows signs of former crownpost roofs in both wings, suggesting it was once part of a larger house that has since been lost.

In the 18th century, the building was extended to the west to create a square plan, and further extended to the north in the 19th century. It has three external chimney stacks and is two storeys high with a hipped roof. The ground floor includes an inserted double garage, one sash window, and two bays, each with three sash windows made of 20th-century light alloy. The entrance features a six-panel door with a fanlight that has intersected tracery, and a Doric porch with engaged columns, topped with a broken pediment adorned with rosettes below the cornice, dating from the mid-18th century.

On the upper floor, there is a 20th-century casement window and a 19th-century sash window above the garage, along with a 19th-century sash window above the porch. To the left of the porch, there are two 20th-century light alloy sash windows, and to the right, a bay containing three 20th-century light alloy sash windows.
