Description
Lodge Gate is a lobby-entrance house dating from around 1600, which has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with plaster and a slated roof. The building consists of four bays and has an axial chimney located in the second bay from the south end, as well as an internal chimney in the north gable end. There are 20th-century extensions at the rear and including a garage, and the house is two storeys tall. The front has a three-window range of 20th-century metal casements and a 20th-century gabled porch. Inside, there is a stop-chamfered ceiling beam in the north bay, and an edge-halved and bridled scarf is visible in the west wallplate. The original roof, which is of clasped purlin construction, is still present, although the collars are missing and it is completely enclosed by a 20th-century softwood roof. No other framing is exposed.
