Description

Terriers Terry's Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. It has been divided into two dwellings. The structure features a combination of timber framing and brick, with most walls plastered, while the gables are tile-hung. The roof is partly thatched and partly tiled. The building has an H-plan layout, consisting of a small two-bay house with a chimney stack at the eastern end, a crosswing to the east dating from around 1590, and a west crosswing from the 19th century, each with its own chimney stacks from the 19th or 20th century. There is a single-storey lean-to extension to the north of the middle section, built in the 18th or 19th century, and another lean-to extension to the east of the eastern crosswing.

On the northern elevation, there are two late 19th-century sash windows in each crosswing and three 20th-century casement windows in the central part, which is a single storey with attics and thatched roofing; the other roofs are tiled. Some of the timber framing is exposed internally. The eastern crosswing features jowled storey posts, straight bracing set inside the studs, a clasped purlin roof, mortices for early glazed windows, and diamond mullions with intermediate stiffening bars, which are better preserved at Salkyns, serial number 2/1.
