Description
The icehouse, dating from the 18th century, is located approximately 75 metres southeast of Lodge Gate in Great Canfield. It is built of red brick and features a cylindrical shape with a domed roof. The entrance is situated to the north, although the brick arch is broken and the entrance passage was demolished around 1940. The structure is surrounded by an earth bank, which does not cover the dome or the upper half-metre of the walls. The drainage sump has become silted up as of December 1982. This icehouse is situated near the former manor house Fitzjohns, which was demolished around 1900.
