Description
Clipped Hedge Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th or 18th century. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring a half-hipped thatched roof. The cottage has one storey and attics, with a prominent large gabled thatched dormer on the front roof slope, which is adorned with 19th-century decorative bargeboards. There are significant 20th-century thatched extensions to the rear and south ends of the building. The entrance is through an off-centre baffle entry style, with a ridgeline stack above. The windows are 20th-century leaded light casement types. Inside, the frame is exposed, showcasing many reused late 16th-century window mullions as studs, along with an inserted floor that has the date '1726' inscribed on a bridging joist. A large inglenook fireplace features an elaborately moulded mantel beam.
