Description

Laurel Cottage and Elm Cottage are a pair of mid-19th century houses located in Hatfield Broad Oak. They are constructed of painted render with imitation timber framing and have peg tile roofs. The design is a 'cottage ornee' style, featuring two units with two-storey parallel gabled ranges and a lower hipped-ended rear block at right angles. Each house has lean-to porches at the entrance. A central cruciform brick stack serves both cottages. The gabled fronts display imitation painted timber framing with an applied jetty supported by corbel brackets, simple 19th-century casements, and elaborate arch-braced bargeboards topped with apex pendant finials. Simple contemporary iron railings complete the exterior.
