Description
The Old Barn is a house that was originally a barn, dating from the late 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame that is rendered, showcasing the exposed frame, and features 20th-century leaded light windows. The roof is gabled and covered with pantiles. The building originally consisted of three bays with a central midstrey on the south side, but an additional bay has been added to the north end. There is also a later lean-to on the east front, which has been converted into an enclosed porch. The frame includes jowled posts and long, straight internal wall bracing that connects to the tie beams. The roof structure is supported by side purlins and 'V' struts, with some parts having been rebuilt. The timber includes reused baluster-like pieces from the late 16th century, featuring typical stamped and inscribed patterns, including a rose design. A portion of the bargeboard displays similar decorative running patterns.
