Description

The water tower, built in 1913, was designed by architect A.H. Forbes, who served as the Borough Surveyor. It is constructed of red brick and measures approximately 8 meters square and 28 meters high. The tower features a stepped plinth with a round arched doorway and a foundation plaque on the west side. The upper tank stage is adorned with clasping pilasters and a supporting cornice, which includes three blind depressed arched recesses with splayed sills on each face. This design motif continues down to the plinth through three stages, with the recesses becoming progressively longer but shallower. The tower was built by local builder J. Custerson, and a photograph of it during construction exists.
