Description

Easton Cottage in Little Bradwell is a house and cottage that was formerly a public house, dating from the mid to late 17th century. The building is timber framed with a painted brick front and flanks added in the early 19th century, and it features gabled roofs covered with peg tiles.

The front of the main block has end pilasters, dentilled eaves, and a string band. On the first floor, there are four double hung sash windows with small panes and flat heads. The ground floor also has four similar windows, along with a central door that is topped by a flat hood supported by decorative cast iron columns from the 19th century.

The cottage section includes one double hung sash window on each floor, a dentilled cornice, and a two-storey rear extension with a gabled peg tile roof. There is a gable end stack on the north flank, and square stacks located behind the ridge line in the center and towards the southern end.

The north flank features a pair of bowed Gothick windows from the late 18th century with ogee heads and contemporary leaded lights, situated above two horizontal sliding casement windows with small panes. Inside, the central part of the building reveals mid 17th century framing, along with a later 18th century bay on the north end. Additionally, remnants of an earlier timber framed structure can be found in the party wall of the cottage.
