Description
Nos. 7 and 9 Broad Street Green are a pair of cottages that were originally a small house, dating from the late 16th century. They feature timber framing and render, with some exposed framing and black weatherboarding on the southern end. The buildings are one storey high with attics and have a half hipped thatched roof. The front façade includes one large off-centre eyebrow dormer and two very small brick stacks along the ridge line. The windows are small pane casements from the 19th and 20th centuries, and No. 9 has a 20th-century rear extension. Originally a small open hall house, it has 17th-century inserted floors. Inside, there are straight internal plank wall bracing and arched braces supporting the tie beams, along with remnants of diamond mullion windows. The roof is constructed in a simple rafter and collar form, featuring short side purlins that are tenoned into the gablet rafters. The northeast bay includes 17th and 18th-century extensions, as well as a 20th-century lean-to extension on the southwest end.
