Description

This is an 18th and early 19th century house situated in Great Dunmow. It is constructed of timber framing, later plastered, and comprises two main ranges with a single-storey stable/coach house range at the rear, enclosing a yard. The front roof is covered with slate on the front slope and peg tiles on the rear, while the rear range is entirely of peg tiles. The front façade features two double-hung sash windows on the first floor, with moulded surrounds and small panes, above two similar ground floor windows and a central, simple door surround. The rear range has a jettied rear elevation, displaying a circular window and a double-hung sash on the first floor. A painted brick flank wall is located on the south-east side. Inside, the house is a cottage with a single storey and attics, under a gambrel roof, which was raised in the early 19th century.
