Description
Chaffix is a house with a 15th-century west wing and a 16th-century central range. It has two storeys and features a hipped red plain tile roof with gablets, along with wings at the rear. The building has four windows on the first floor and three on the ground floor, all of which are 19th-century sliding sashes with glazing bars. There is an off-centre boarded door beneath a plain red tile hipped gable porch. The central chimney stack is notable for its moulded bases supporting four octagonal shafts. The west wing includes arch-braced tie beams and a crown post roof, while the chimney stack dates from no later than around 1530. The roof appears to have been rebuilt in the late 17th century. A part of a former arched hall screen is now reused in the left crosswing, and there is a wall painting in the upper room. The house is situated on a moated site.
