Description

Bridge Cottage is an early 16th century timber-framed and plastered house located on Church Road in Stansted Mountfitchet. The timber framing is visible on the upper storey, which has two storeys in total. The ground storey at the front has been refaced in painted brick. A small wing projects from the upper storey on the south-west front, supported by two posts with brackets and some carved panelling, creating an open porch below. The gable of the porch wing slightly projects on a bressummer with pendants, and features ogee shaped bracing. The corners of the upper part have curved braces. The windows are primarily casements, mostly with latticed lights, and some include glazing bars. The roof is tiled and hipped, with gambrel roofs at both the north-west and south-east ends.
