Description

Springate Cottage is a late 16th-century cottage that is timber framed and plastered. It has one storey and attics, featuring a half-hipped thatched roof with two gabled, thatched dormers and a central, 20th-century half-hipped, thatched porch. The front of the cottage includes 19th-century casement windows with small panes. There is a central red brick stack along the ridge line. Originally a hall house, it has jowled posts and straight bracing to the partition and top plates, which are joined with halved and bladed scarf joints. The roof has side purlins with wind-bracing in the northern bay. There are various 20th-century extensions at the rear and a gabled garage with a peg tile roof at the southern end.
